Here you will find answers to the questions I am most frequently asked. If you have a question that is not listed here please get in touch!

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to interact with the subconscious mind to create positive change in your life. There are many techniques and many styles and many applications of hypnotherapy.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxed focus. It is a natural state. In fact, each of us enters such a state – sometimes called a trance state – at least twice a day: once when we are falling asleep, and once when we are waking up. That kind of fuzzy, timeless state between dreaming and awake is a trance state. Trance is normal, natural and common.

What can’t be treated with hypnotherapy?

Serious psychiatric problems are referred to a qualified psychotherapist or psychiatrist. It is only with their permission that we would consider hypnotherapy.

Will I bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken?

We cannot make you do something against your will. In fact all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and no hypnotist can make you do something that you really don’t want to do. The people you see on TV that are ‘made to act like chickens’ comply simply because they want to be on stage, and their subconscious will allow any suggestion that makes that possible.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Everybody can reach a trance state, if they want to. If you fight it then it simply won’t happen. With some people that might take longer than others but everybody can be hypnotised.

Will I lose control?

Absolutely not, you are always in control, and you can always hear what’s going on. Hypnosis is nothing but a state of relaxed deep focus.

My friend tried hypnosis to quit smoking and it didn’t work.

Hypnotherapy is powerful, but it is not a magic bullet. A hypnotist can only create change if the subject is absolutely willing and ready for that change to occur. If the subject is seeking hypnotherapy because they are being pressured into it by partner or family member then hypnotherapy is less likely to be successful.

Is Hypnosis dangerous?

Some people think that you can go into trance and not wake up, this is simply not true. You are always in control, always able to ‘come back’ to full waking state at any time if you wanted or needed to. The number one job of the subconscious mind is to protect you, and it is always on the job. There really is no risk involved.
